Entertainment industry gets hit by economic crisis too - Stars not spared

"Last One Standing" not only made Roger Kwok infamous with his role, but also allowed Kevin Cheng to have a great breakthrough in his acting. Kevin even expresses that it is his favorite role thus far. As for getting awards for his performance, Kevin is not especially concerned. He is contented with the opportunity to take up such a great role, and winning the cheers of viewers. "An award would be an extra bonus", says Kevin.
In the midst of the current economic downturn, no profession is spared; even Hong Kong's entertainment industry is affected. Having received TVB's Best Actor in a Leading Role award last year, Kevin reveals that a pay cut is in the current economy is inevitable, and he is prepared to accept it and ride out the crisis together with everyone.
Kevin shares that his market value has indeed increased after receiving the award, but not to the extent of half a fold, "That would be too exaggerating." As for the outlook for this year's Best Actor, Kevin is not optimistic about the increase in market value given the current economic situation.
Artistes hardly escapes tabloid these days, with regards to his relationship with Charmaine Sheh, Kevin explains that they are merely friends from work, moreover, she is not his only tabloid partner in his 15 years career. However the couple was indeed seen appearing on the red carpet, for the award ceremony, and posing for photographs rather intimately.
Absence of negative remarks from the public has Kate Tsui doubting her acting skills
Miss Hong Kong 2004, Kate Tsui, made her mark from her appearance in "La Femme Desperado". However, her open discussion about sex related issue on a programme nearly caused her to be put in "cold storage", as viewers felt that her actions were damaging to the image of Miss Hong Kong Pageant. It was only after a public apology did the matter die down. In 2007, collaboration with Simon Yam and Tony Leung, in "Eye in the Sky" allowed her shine on screen once again. It was not hard to notice the efforts by her company to support and re-introduce her.
Kate received nomination for "Best Supporting Actress" for her role in "Moonlight Resonance". During her interview at the awards ceremony, she expressed her confidence in the production to win awards. Kate also reveals that it was her first time participating in such a huge production and she could really appreciate the production's secret to success. "Moonlight Resonance" walks away, a huge winner, with six awards.
Roger Kwok's flawless portrayal of the villain in "Last One Standing" made viewers hate "him", some even scolded him in public. On the contrary, Camie Lo from "Moonlight Resonance", played by Kate, did not win the "hate" of the public. This made Kate wondering if she had not done the part well. She does however, comments that viewers are more rational these days; and are able to differentiate reality from TV.
